AFL legend Warwick Capper has announced that he’s going to outdo Mike Tyson by taking a boxing fight at age 61 – an incredible 33 years since he retired from playing football.

The colourful former Sydney Swans star announced his next career move with a social media post on Tuesday alongside his trainer, who made headlines when he was caught up a huge drug bust in 2022.

‘If Mike Tyson can do it at 58, Warwick Capper can smash heads at 61,’ Capper declared while standing in the ring a Melbourne boxing gym.

‘Good for your mental health, good for my body and good for the kids that train. Gets them off the couch and over to the gym.’

Capper’s trainer and manager, former world champion kickboxer Atdhe Bunjaku, says anybody who is looking to throw down with the former footy star should contact Prince Management.

In 2022, Bunjaku pleaded guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court to several charges including cultivating cannabis after police caught him with close to 100kg of marijuana plants he grew at his home.

Bunjaku also told police that he had two handguns in his house during the raid, the court heard.

If Capper does end up taking a fight next year, it will be the second time he has stepped between the ropes after squaring off with NRL legend Wendell Sailor in a 2009 charity fight.

In that bout, Sailor dropped the AFL cult hero and managed to get a stoppage victory in the third round.

Capper’s boxing announcement has been received warmly by footy fans online.

‘Wow nice work making this happen,’ remarked one Instagram user.

‘Kappa v Jake Paul,’ suggested another, referring to Tyson’s opponent in his comeback fight last month.

‘Capper’s nemesis Ricky Nixon would be a great matchup,’ said a third who wants the ex-full forward to take on the controversial former AFL player manager.

Nixon and Capper had a public dispute in 2023 when their plans to celebrate a birthday party together soured.

Later, after Sam Newman and Nixon were involved in an altercation, Capper called out Nixon to settle things in the boxing ring.

‘I’ll have Sam Newman in my corner and we’ll see who can’t fight,’ Capper said at the time.

‘Red-face Nixon ripped off Sam and then criticises me… weak.’

Capper has tried his hand at modelling, porn, becoming a DJ and politics since his retirement from the AFL in 1991.

First rising to fame as a goal-scoring spearhead for the Sydney Swans and Brisbane Bears, Capper has since become a prominent pop culture figure.

Since retiring from AFL in 1991, he has stayed in the public eye thanks to his highly-publicised and often bizarre career ventures.

He has announced plans to become a male stripper, sold a sex tape in 2009, and even tried to run against Pauline Hanson in the 2009 Queensland state election.

Last year Capper gave Daily Mail Australia an exclusive tour of the Melbourne brothel he bought and renovated, claiming he was thinking of franchising the business and operating it in ‘every state’.
