Liverpool vs Wolves: Luis Diaz goal opens scoring… and Salah adds penalty for 28th of season
Luis Diaz scored his first goal in 10 games to put Liverpool in front at home to Wolves in the Premier League on Sunday – and former Reds defender Jamie Carragher said he hoped the scrappy opener would restore the Colombia international to full form.
Diaz bravely bundled the ball over the line after fellow forwards Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota combined, putting the Reds on course to move seven points above Arsenal at the top of the table.
“Liverpool get a bit of luck,” Carragher told Sky Sports. “Maybe that goal can give him confidence to return to the Luis Diaz we know.”

Salah fired in a penalty in routine fashion to double the lead eight minutes before half-time, striking after Diaz had been brought down by goalkeeper Jose Sa.
The Premier League top scorer took his tally to 28 goals in all competitions in 2024/25 to increase the chances of Wolves remaining only two points above the relegation zone.

Liverpool vs Wolves: Salah goal
After being knocked out of the FA Cup at second-tier Plymouth Argyle and being held to a fiery 2-2 draw at Everton on Monday, Liverpool made a promising start against the fourth-bottom side.
The returning Trent Alexander-Arnold was among their players to spurn presentable chances before Diaz beat centre-back Emmanuel Agbadou and Sa to a bouncing ball, taking a whack to the hip as he saw his finish over the line.

Jota – in for the injured Cody Gakpo – started the move by feeding Diaz beyond the halfway line, and a touch from Salah inside the box was deflected in to Diaz’s path by Toti Gomes.
Portugal international Jota threatened to score himself in the 32nd minute, smashing in a shot from a tight angle that was turned behind after Sa had pawed Andy Robertson’s cross from the left, sent in after Alexander-Arnold had found his fellow wideman with a crossfield ball.
Luis Diaz stats
Diaz’s previous goal had come in a 5-0 Premier League win at West Ham on December 29, taking the 28-year-old’s total to eight in all competitions this season.
His last assist set up Salah for the only goal of the game at Girona in the league phase of the Champions League on December 10.
