Tottenham booked their place in the Europa League semi-finals with a gritty 1-0 win away to Eintracht Frankfurt, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory.

A first-half penalty from Dominic Solanke was the difference as Spurs survived a late onslaught from the hosts to edge through in dramatic fashion.

An electric atmosphere at Deutsche Bank Park spurred Frankfurt into a fast start, with early chances falling to Bahoya and Gotze.

However, Spurs weathered the storm, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero key in shutting down Frankfurt’s dangerous forward Hugo Ekitike, whose pace troubled the visitors throughout.

Tottenham grew into the game and got their breakthrough just before half-time. James Maddison was clattered by goalkeeper Santos in the box, and after a brief VAR check, the referee pointed to the spot.

Solanke kept his nerve and slotted home calmly to put Spurs ahead on the night and in the tie.

The second half brought waves of Frankfurt pressure, as the hosts pushed for the equaliser. Rasmus Kristensen and Fares Chaibi both went close, while Ekitike had a penalty shout waved away.

A stunning save from Guglielmo Vicario denied Chaibi’s close-range header, and Kristensen squandered another golden opportunity by shooting tamely at the Spurs keeper.

Tottenham, meanwhile, shifted into defensive mode late on.

Ange Postecoglou introduced Pape Sarr and Kevin Danso to bolster the rearguard, transitioning to a back five. Romero, despite a late head injury and a yellow card for a wild challenge, was a rock at the back.

Van de Ven continued to marshall the backline expertly, making a crucial tackle to deny Ekitike in the first half.

As stoppage time dragged on, Frankfurt threw everything forward, earning multiple corners and a dangerous free-kick in the 97th minute.

But Spurs managed to see it through.

The final whistle sparked jubilant scenes on the Tottenham bench, who advance to the Europa League semi-finals for the first time since 2013.

Though not always convincing, their resilience and big-game composure proved just enough to hold off a spirited Frankfurt comeback.
