Bayern star Joshua Kimmich provides clarity on when his future will be decided
Joshua Kimmich’s future remains up in the air, but the Bayern Munich midfielder provided clarity on when it will be decided following his outstanding performance in their Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern took full command of their last-16 tie with their Bundesliga rivals with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Allianz Arena, with Kimmich instrumental.
The Germany international produced a metronomic display in the Bayern engine room, and had a hand in the second goal as Leverkusen goalkeeper Matej Kovar spilled his cross into the path of Jamal Musiala.
Kimmich has just four months left on his Bayern contract, but could yet sign an extension, while Arsenal, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain have all been linked with a move for his services.
Speaking to reporters after the win over Leverkusen, Kimmich indicated a decision will come before the next international break. Bayern face Union Berlin on March 15 in their final game before the international window.
“A decision will definitely be made soon. The ball is not in my court,” Kimmich told reporters.
“My plan was to do it before the international break. The club wanted it before the two Leverkusen games. I’m noticing that [sporting director] Max [Eberl] is honest and is fighting.

“It’s not about squeezing out the last euro. I know that Max is very honest and is fighting. I really appreciate that.
“I also don’t have the impression that I’m totally greedy. It’s not about squeezing out the last euro. Max knows that. We had very good talks.
“My plan was to make my decision before the international break. The club didn’t want that, which is legitimate. I appreciate that they gave me a lot of time. It was important to get off to a good start this season after a difficult last season and build a relationship with each other again.
“The club now wanted to have a decision before the two games against Leverkusen. For me the injury complicated things a bit, without going into details. But there will be a decision soon. I don’t know if it will be between both legs [against Leverkusen], but it will definitely be before the international break at the latest.”
Kimmich confirmed that other clubs are playing a role in his considerations. However, asked which clubs, he simply replied: “I won’t say that.”
