La Liga leaders Barcelona are back in action on Sunday afternoon as they face Girona in Montjuic.
Hansi Flick’s side enjoyed a premature return from the March international break on Thursday evening as they beat Osasuna 3-0 in their rescheduled league fixture. Early goals from Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo set the tone before substitute Robert Lewandowski completed the job midway through the second half.
That victory means Barca are three points clear of Real Madrid ahead of the weekend’s action. They’re still unbeaten in 2025 and are playing some scintillating football.
Girona, last season’s surprise package, are hoping for a reset after the international break. Michel’s side are winless in six La Liga outings and have slid down to 13th in the table, having spent much of the season in the top half.
Barca’s 4-1 victory in the reverse fixture back in September mapped out the paths for both of these sides in 2024/25.

After scoring from the spot at the second attempt on Thursday evening, Dani Olmo was forced off with a groin injury that will keep him out of action this weekend. His replacement, Fermin Lopez, teed up Robert Lewandowski’s goal which sealed Barcelona’s victory.
Raphinha will return to the fold, having travelled back from Brazil in the wake of the Selecao’s 4-1 defeat to Argentina. He’ll start down the left, and Lewandowski will also come back into the team.
The hosts are still without Marc Bernal, Andreas Christensen, Marc-Ander ter Stegen and Marc Casado. Pau Cubarsi was on the bench in midweek despite picking up a knock on international duty.

Girona are without the suspended Donny van de Beek due to yellow card accumulation, while Abel Ruiz, Jhon Solis and Ivan Martin are out injured.
Oriol Romeu could return to Michel’s starting XI against his former club, and the manager may be tempted to start veteran forward Cristhian Stuani on Sunday given his record against Barcelona. Arnaut Danjuma will supply the width down one flank.

Girona must’ve welcomed the break, given their recent form, but they have their work cut out if they’re to bring their winless run to an end on Sunday.
No team in Europe’s top five leagues has been more productive than Barcelona in 2025 – PSG run them close – and Flick’s side are currently performing with telepathy that no team can contain. Thursday’s win was impressive given the quick turnaround from the internationals, and they’ll be emboldened by Raphinha’s return this weekend despite Olmo’s injury.
There’s no stopping this Barca team at the moment, and an out-of-sorts Girona will be the next outfit to feel their wrath.
